Robot Assisted Therapy for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder - A Survey- Juniper Publishers

Image
Juniper Publishers- Journal of Robotics Abstract This paper discusses various approaches and equipment/robots used for behavioral assessment and improvement of an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) child. These studies are usually conducted for 4-6 weeks period of time. All of these therapies involve a considerable improvement in various features evaluated for an ASD child. The improvement is observed in various parameters evaluated such as joint attention, occlusion, distance from the robot, eye contact, social interaction, communication and many more depending upon the time taken and features chosen for each therapy. Children with autism spectrum disorders have shown a remarkable improvement when brought in interaction with robots by involving in various collaborative plays. Keywords: ASD, interaction, Autism, Assistive robots, Therapies, Typically developed (TD) Introduction A child in the journey of development matures its social interaction and cognitiv

Color based Object Tracking Robot- Juniper Publishers

Image
Juniper Publishers- Journal of Robotics Abstract This article presents a vision based object tracking robot controlled by a computer software. We developed a robotic object tracking such that it can track objects based on color. Introducing color along with the shape of the object reduces false detection. The unique features of this system are its ability to perform simultaneous real-time image acquisition and range sensing. Furthermore, its flexible design, confers the ability to handle a wide range of tasks. In this case the object of interest is a red circular shape. The system is designed to track the object in its Y-Z plane using robotic manipulator. The program for color based object tracking is written in MATLAB. The camera is used to track the object and decide the motion of the system. The object of interest is detected successfully using two stages, color detection followed by shape detection. The detected object is then tracked by the robotic end effect

Research on Electromagnetic Driving Robot Fish-Juniper Publishers

Image
Juniper Publishers-Journal of Robotics Abstract Based on the actual physical appearance of the tuna and the wave equation derived from observing its swimming locomotion, this paper proposes a new idea on the simulation and modeling of the robot fish and a novel way of thinking on kinetic analysis. The motion law for each joint of the robot fish was first obtained through the discrete fitting method and the motion law was subsequently used as the basis for the robot fish electromagnetic drive control signal. The fluent flow field analysis software was utilized. The meshing of the fluid around the fish body was performed by using the dynamic grid technique. The surface pressure values of the fish body during the steady state forward movement were analyzed, and the values of the driving force of each part of the fish were obtained. It was then determined that the electromagnetic drive caudal fin robot fish was the optimal design. Based on the idea of digital-analog c

A System Dynamics Approach for Cost-Benefit Analysis of Smart Grid Developments- Juniper Publishers

Image
Juniper Publishers- Journal of Robotics Abstract This introductory paper aims to construct a framework using the System Dynamics theory to conduct a cost-benefit analysisof the development of any smart grid project. Since the current evaluation methods are static in nature and ignore the consideration of uncertainty in the process, a different method should be adopted. The theory of System Dynamics and its relevance has been explained and the smart grid scenario is given. The cost-benefit analysis model with System Dynamics could dynamically evaluate all the benefits by allowing any factors to be changed during the grid development process, this model aims to evaluate smart grid more comprehensively. Keywords: System dynamics; Smart grid; Cost-benefit analysis; Uncertainty Introduction With the development of the modern society, humans have a much higher demand for energy, the efficiency and safety of such energy supply have b

Short Review of Network Based Humanoid Robot Platform- Juniper Publishers

Image
Juniper Publishers-Journal of Robotics Abstract In this paper, network based humanoid robot platform is shortly reviewed. This type of humanoid robot uses network resources through network connections. And it can offer high-quality intelligent services to human beings without limitations in terms of system resources. Furthermore, the application areas can be very wide because it can use unlimited physical resources through the network. Index Terms : Network based humanoid robot Introduction A humanoid is a robot able to complete movements and guarantee performance similar to those of a human being [ 1 ]. In the humanoid robotics area, one of the most challenging goals is to give intelligence to a humanoid to enable it to function intelligently, because a humanoid can communicate with human beings intuitively. Many researchers have tried to create a humanoid that is more intelligent and serviceable. Until now, howeve

Electroencephalography Based Dexterous Robotics Hand Grasping and Manipulation: A Short Review- Juniper Publishers

Image
Juniper Publishers- Journal of Robotics Introduction In general context, robotics hands do play an important milestone towards achieving a much advanced and complicated robotic grasping. In parallel to this, robotic hand grasping and dexterous manipulation have been under focus for a while. This is also considered an essential step onward for performing advanced operations and tasks that are needed for current robotics use. Definitely, not always analytical approaches for finding the right set or optimal set of forces and wrenches for robotics hands will work, examples are found in Han et al. [ 1 ]. This issue also is much complicated while considering robotics hands with five digits (curling fingers applications). Use of electroencephalography (EEG) brainwaves for robotics applications, is also gaining a good ground recently. This is due to advancement of robotics applications. EEG data recording and analysis is much easier than before due to the advancement in
